Some classes are for a semester (Yearbook) or are year long (Spanish I and II). Electives are offered on a rotating basis and according to student interest. Calligraphy: Students will explore handwriting as an art form as they learn to produce upper and lowercase letters using a calligraphy pen. They will learn to apply their new skills in creating beautiful poems, greeting cards, report covers, and more. Students will need to provide their own pen. Clay: The students will learn basic ceramic techniques such as hand building, sculpting, slab work, coiling, and glazing and firing. The students will fire 2-4 projects during the quarter. Students who wish to fire additional pieces will need to pay an extra fee. Computer Applications: Use and further develop the skills you’ve learned in Computer Keyboarding to create your own computer-based projects. Learn and use software for desktop publishing and report presentations like MS Power Point. Creative Writing: Students have the opportunity to focus on both the creative writing process and the elements of short stories. Utilizing language arts writing skills, students may create their own stories and produce an illustrated book by the end of the class. Crime Lab Chemistry: Students study a “crime scene,” then conduct crime-lab tests on the evidence, analyze the results, and try to solve the case using thread tests, powder tests, chromatography, and fingerprinting. Debate & Speech: Being able to prepare a good speech or report and to deliver it convincingly is an important skill. Giving speeches helps to organize ideas and communicate them to others. This is a lifetime skill that will be useful in whatever career a student might choose. Debate teaches students how to investigate new ideas, develop critical thinking and analysis, improve public speaking, and open their minds to different viewpoints. Debate also teaches the principles of tolerance and respect. Drama: Basics of theater class for all levels of performers. Students will learn the basics of acting, staging, voice projection, memorization, and costuming. Students will perform in school performances; i.e., small skits and performances used to assist with Chapels and Service Projects. Drawing I & II: If you would like to expand your artistic knowledge and develop your creative skills, this is the class for you! Artistic talent is not a prerequisite; all you need is creativity and the desire to learn. In Drawing I, students will learn drawing techniques and vocabulary while walking through a step-by-step process to create a finished piece of work. Drawing II will further develop the skills developed in Drawing I. Exploratory Spanish: The exploratory track is for students who are interested in exploring Spanish as a foreign language. They will use a computer program and work at their own pace. Students must provide their own headphones. Music-Vocal Ensemble: This group is open to both boys and girls and no experience is necessary. We will be studying proper singing techniques and singing a variety of music from Classical to Contemporary Christian. The ensemble will have the opportunity to perform for Faith Bible students, teachers, and members of the community.
