Honors American Literature


This is a course designed for above-average 11th grade English students. The students are teacher picked based on writing excellence, GPA, maturity, and attendance. These students begin to prepare for the AP Literature examination that is given May of their 12th grade year. They must complete all of the American Literature curriculum with extra reading over summer and Christmas break and extra compositions.

Textbook/Resource Materials Used:
A-Beka: Grammar IV and Masterpieces and Background of World Literature; From Wordsmith: Vocabulary; summer reading: Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and Of Mice and Men and Christmas reading is either The Red Badge of Courage or The Crucible
