Sixth Grade

We are set up as a traditional classroom where the homeroom teacher teaches all core subjects. Enrichment activities such as Music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and art are taught by specialists.

Academic Program:

Math and language arts (grammar, spelling, and reading) are taught daily. Science/health and history are taught for 45 minutes 3 days a week. Students are expected to have homework daily and are quizzed or tested over presented material weekly.

Spiritual Emphasis:

Students attend chapel each week to worship in song and be challenged by a guest speaker – usually a local children’s or youth minister. Three days a week we have a devotional time at the end of the day. Our emphasis is on service and character development. Students also participate in a variety of service projects throughout the year.

Activities:

Each spring, students in sixth grade attend a Christian Outdoor School at Camp Yamhill. Counselors from our own high school, as well as the classroom teacher, the camp director, and field resource instructors, guide the students through a 4-day program that recognizes God’s primacy in creation and man’s responsibility to preserve and protect plant and animal species. Camp Yamhill also offers a challenge course that teaches students team building, problem solving, respect, trust, determination, and other universal skills. Students also consider being a Book Buddy (reading) to the Pre 3s and Pre 4s one of the highlights of their week.
