Fifth Grade

We are set up as a traditional classroom where the homeroom teacher teaches all core subjects. Enrichment activities such as Music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and art are taught by specialists.

Academic Program:

Each day we spend time learning Bible history and its application to our lives. We also develop reading comprehension, learn new spelling and vocabulary words, discuss the use of language, practice writing skills, discover new math concepts, research ancient history and discover God’s wonderful creation in science class. For enrichment in the arts, we also attend music, art, and Spanish classes. And to increase our knowledge of technology in the learning community, we also attend a computer/library class.

Spiritual Emphasis:

We begin the week with a Monday opening devotion. We all meet again on Wednesday for chapel to sing songs of praise to God and to learn from His Word as presented by a guest speaker. In class we study God’s Word daily, memorize Scripture, and give glory to God when we recognize his grand design in science and math. We also pause to reflect on how our reading assignments reveal God’s protection and our friends and family anytime.

Activities:

Grades four through six get to bowl, skate, or swim once during each quarter. This year the fifth grade will go to Mt. St. Helens and marvel at how God has restored new life to an area that had been destroyed only twenty-seven years ago. We are looking forward to a trip to the Rice Rock and Mineral Museum in Hillsboro.
