Fourth Grade

We are set up as a traditional classroom where the homeroom teacher teaches all core subjects. Enrichment activities such as Music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and art are taught by specialists.

Academic Program:

We spend time each day studying the Bible and its application to our lives. We also spend time studying Language, Spelling, Handwriting, Math, History, and Science. We do several projects to enhance our studies in History and Science. Throughout the year we study Oregon by creating an Oregon Diary, a city pamphlet, and an Oregon ABC Book. We develop reading comprehension through weekly tests and by reading God’s World News, a current events newsletter. To enhance our love of reading we do a book report each quarter and participate in Pizza Hut’s reading program. In addition, our class has Physical Education twice a week and weekly instruction in Spanish, Keyboarding, Art, and Music. We go to the Faith Bible Media Center each week to learn about library skills and check out books to read.

Spiritual Emphasis:

We begin our week by joining with other classes in Monday Opening where we sing songs of praise to God and share our memory verses. In class we study Bible doctrines and memorize scripture verses to provide a firm foundation in our walk with the Lord. We all meet again on Wednesday for Chapel to sing songs, listen to special speakers, and pray. We are involved in several service opportunities each year, including filling shoe boxes for needy children, cleaning up the campus, and others.

Activities:

Grades four through six get to bowl, skate, or swim once during each quarter. To enhance our study of Oregon we visit The End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, Fort Vancouver, and the Salem Capitol Building. We will visit the Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center and look at tide pools at Yaquina Head to top off our study of Oceanography. For fun we will see a play at the Oregon Children’s Theater.
