Second Grade

We are set up as a traditional classroom where the homeroom teacher teaches all core subjects. Enrichment activities such as Music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and art are taught by specialists.

Academic Program:

Each day we spend time in Bible, Math, Language Arts, Spelling, and Handwriting. Social Studies and Science units are presented throughout the year. Opportunities for Creative Writing are given, including Journal writing. Enrichment classes include P.E., Spanish, Music, Computer, Library and Art. We test regularly in Spelling, Math, Language, Handwriting and Bible Memory.

Spiritual Emphasis:

Students attend Chapel each Wednesday where we praise God in song and learn from God’s Word as presented by a guest speaker. We begin each day with prayer and have a Bible Lesson. Whenever appropriate we emphasize God’s principles through the different subjects taught and help students to apply the Word to their daily lives. Our goal is to help students develop a Christian Worldview.

Activities:

Each year we take field trips to the Portland Children’s Museum and OMSI. We attend a play presented by Oregon Children’s Theater. Our Nutrition Unit offers the chance to visit a local grocery store to learn about healthy eating. In alternate years, students can choose to participate in a Creative Writing Contest and Spelling Bee. Annually they help with Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Boxes, also known as Operation Christmas Child. In the spring we create a small village out of milk cartons!
