First Grade
We are set up as a traditional classroom where the homeroom teacher teaches all core subjects. Enrichment activities such as Music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and art are taught by specialists.
Academic Program:
In first grade we spend time in Bible, Phonics, Spelling, Math, Handwriting, Social Studies, and Science. We work on writing projects and learn and present plays for our families and other classes which are fun for the children. We enjoy the following Enrichment classes: PE, Art, and Music. We visit the library weekly and are learning Spanish too.
Spiritual Emphasis: We have a Monday morning opening where we sing together with older grades and share our Bible Memory also. We attend chapel on Wednesday where we praise God in song and learn from God’s Word with guest speakers. We begin each day with prayer and have Bible lessons. Whenever appropriate we emphasize God’s principles through the different subjects taught and help kids to apply the Word to their daily lives.
Activities: Each year we take field trips to the zoo, a pumpkin patch, and we go to see a children’s play. We are book buddies with the fourth grade class. We work on occasional service projects to reach out to senior citizens in our area. We help with Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Boxes to share God’s love with children in other countries.
